Tattoo Pre- and Post-Care\u2014Why Is It Important?<\/h2>\n\n

If you want a beautiful tattoo, tattoo care begins even before your actual tattoo appointment. Getting a tattoo puts a tremendous strain on your skin and your entire body. Before your appointment, you should moisturize your skin with hydrating creams. It\u2019s best to use creams without artificial fragrances, which could irritate your skin. <\/p>\n\n

But why moisturize your skin? It\u2019s simple: Well-cared-for skin minimizes the risk of tattoo infections<\/a>. Dry skin cracks more easily, allowing pathogens and dirt to settle in and cause inflammation later on. You shouldn\u2019t apply any creams to your skin before the appointment itself. The fact is, though: even the best tattoo artist and the most unique tattoo style won\u2019t amount to much if the tattoo isn\u2019t cared for properly after it\u2019s done. Properly caring for fresh tattoos is especially important, and every tattoo artist has their own preferences when it comes to this. <\/p>\n\n

Until a few years ago, many tattoo artists still used the plastic wrap method. Some colleagues recommended reapplying the wrap every few days, while others advised removing it completely after a few hours. The problem with this approach is that bacteria accumulate under the wrap. Plastic wrap cannot be applied to the skin in a completely airtight manner, so contaminants and pathogens can still reach the fresh wound. In addition, after the tattooing process, the skin continues to release wound fluid, ink, and, of course, heat. The heat builds up under the plastic wrap, condenses, and creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. <\/p>\n\n
